Farewell to the 95 year old warrior

Grandmaster Helio Gracie died today at the age of 95.
On many occasions I had the honor of meeting him and also competing as he overlooked the competitors.
I remember while teaching class at Ricksons, Rickson would say that his dad was the Albert Einstein of Jiujitsu.
Gracie died the morning of January 29, 2009 in his sleep in Itaipaiva, Rio de Janeiro. The cause of death appeared to be of natural causes. Gracie had been having stomach problems a few days before when he was admitted to a local hospital in Rio de Janeiro. “I created a flag from the sport’s dignity. I oversee the name of my family with affection and nerves of blood,” were the Professor's last words. Gracie is survived by his wife Vera, his sons Rickson, Royler, Rolker, Royce, Relson, Robin and Rorion, his daughters Rerika and Ricci, as well as numerous siblings, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Last Sunday professor David Dunn invited me to train at his academy with various BJJ Black Belts. This network has been going on for about a year. I must say it was a great experience and a pleasure training with people who have been doing jiu jitsu 15 years and up.
I'm happy to announce that the next session will be held at WCJJ, on feb 8th.
Thank you to all the black belts for making me feel part of the team.
